Why Muslims have long and thick beards?

Every Muslim (at least the religious ones) have long and thick beard. Especially the ones on tv, symbolizes the Muslim world always have that beard. Why they do that?

Because the Rumor says Prophet Mohammed had a long beard too so people try to keep the tradition and do everything Mohammed did.

Actually your wrong its because its natural for men to grow facial hair and its part of being a 'real' man and in essence its first obeying thy creator and secondly preserving that which natural and distinct part of the ones own gender.

Well then why dont they just let it grow and "never" trim it? Based on your reasoning, they should never touch that beard at all. But they trim it, shave it, cut it sometimes.
