They should but they dont anymore. Especially in todays modern culture, kids dont even let their parents know that they are having a serious relationship.
However, there are still some countries that keeps their traditions strict. For example i dont think you can marry without the parents permission in Afghanistan or Iran or Indonesia or Saudi Arabia.
