Infidel is a non beleaver.  Although, most of the other religions, specially with the books ie Bible, Torah and Zabur believe in Allah however his absolute oneness is not recognised.  That is to say that there is no one like him, he has no relations like sons or daughters or parents etc. No other religion, other than Islam, accepts such quality of the God Almighty.Hence any body submitting to any deity other than the "God Almighty the Only" would come under the classification of infidels.

I dont really think that is totally true! Arabic is my native language, and am Muslim too (Believe it or not there are many Christian and Jewish Arabs and the majority of Muslims are not Arabs tho that doesnt make any difference cause Islam is not for Arabs its for humanity). In Quran (What Muslims beleive is the exact words of Allah (the Creator) and that this book represents the ultimate truth (which means even the translation of the book is a crude translation, since it would include human interpretation) Muslims believe (and its mention in Quran as well) that the book is the Miracle of this religion (never been changed for more that 1400 years) the Arabs back then were even challenged to come up with something like Quran, when they couldnt they were challenged to come with a chapter and then at least with 10 versus! the book which is the main reference about Islam (and any thing that would be said by a scholar or anyone that contradict with whats in Quran is not accepted) Says the Christians and Jews are "Moshrekeen" were non-believers "Kafreen". I tried to look for the exact translation for "infidels" and couldnt find something that actually match the exact word of "Moshrekeen" that refers to Christians and Jews which -as far as I think- the best translation would be (those who gave companions to God, Christians believe that Jesus (the messiah) may peace be upon him is Gods son or a God by him self, where according to Quran Jewish believe that "Ozayer" is Gods son ), in other parts of the Quran they were refereed by "Ahel Alketab" which could be translated (those who have a book) since Muslims believe that the Bible and Torah are Books from God delivered by his messengers, tho those books were altered by humans through the years and a big portion of it is not valid anymore.
