When is son too old for corporal punishment?

I am almost 17 and still occasionally receive corporal punishment from my father. When I asked him if I was not too old for that he said that in his muslim homeland sons can be beaten as long as they are dependent on their parents. I plan to go to a university so I may be dependent on my parents until well into my twenties. Is my father right?

When he become a "Man"

I dont know the Islamic rule or if there is any. But I dont think it would be right to punish a child physically after he become a man (usually between the age of 10-13)

Because his body developes with his honor, pride and manhood. Therefore any physical punishment to him after that age will affect him deeply.

You must always respect your parents. Even if they do wrong to you. Therefore you are not in a position to go against your dad. However you can try to explain him the affect he is cousing on you and your self-confidence. You can also seek help from family and friends to see if any elderly person would talk to him about it.

Thank you for your answer. I agree I cannot go against my dad and in a way, corporal punishment made me a better person. When I have moments when I am proud of my looks or results in school and feel "superior", corporal punishment quickly makes me humble again, which I want to be. On the other hand, being punished this way when I am, let's say 24, seems a little unsusual. I will open this issue with my father again later.

I don't agree that you are man at the age of 10-13.  I don't think you should get ccorporat punishment once you get out of high school.  If you don 't want to be punished than don't  to anything give your fahter a reason  punished you.
